Hannah Meredith ’26- Badin Girls Golf
Badin girls golf senior Hannah Meridieth has punched her ticket to compete at districts for the 1st time in her high school career. Hannah shot a 79 last week at sectionals, allowing her to be able to qualify for districts coming up, Tuesday, October 7. This match will be taken at Pinestone in Miamisburg, Ohio. Hannah has proved that she is ready for tournament time and to show what the Rams are really about.
The Rams are currently 17-1 and are moving forward as they are headed towards district. In this fashion, Hannah has been a strong leader in the success of the girls season so far. Hannah achieved 3 birdies at sectionals last week along with multiple pars throughout the match, allowing her to finish +7. Hannah has consistently been striving for the top and by making her 3rd appearance at sectionals, there is no looking back now.
Hannah has been averaging about 39 shots through 9 holes for the Rams, and is 2nd for the Rams in the category. She has been a steady leader in this category as a varsity starter for all 4 years now and shows a lot of improvement throughout these 4 years. She has really shown a furious nature with her drives in the matches, by averaging 250 yards a drive. Hannah tried out for the golf team her freshman year making the varsity team. In result, she put her head down and got to work, striving to be the best. This hard work and determination has shown throughout her high school career.
When Hannah was asked about her match Tuesday, Hannah’s response showed leadership along with confidence about her game.
“I feel accomplished knowing I led our team to this victory but overall it was every single one of our scores that made it count,” Meridieth said. “I’m proud that I did well but also that our team did as well overall.”
Also asked about her upcoming match in districts she responded how any first timer in districts would sound.
“I’m excited that we made it to districts. I’m also nervous,” Meridieth remarked. But also having a work ethic to prepare her for the upcoming match. “I’m going to work a lot on my short game and approach shots which are my irons. And mainly my mental game so after a bad shot I can get back easier.”
While being the only senior on a team might sound unheard of with all the athletes here, at Badin High School. Hannah, however, is the only senior on the girls golf team. When asked about that role of having to lead, while still having to golf, she gave a team captain response.
“Being the only senior and leader is something I cherish because I want my teammates to look up to me as a role model and someone they can come to whether it’s golf related or not.” Hannah has been a 4 year starter for the program and has strived to be the greatest. As a result, she is enthusiastic about playing at the collegiate level. “ I would love to play at the collegiate level,” Hannah commented. “I have talked to a couple D3 schools such as Barton College, and Meredith College in North Carolina and it’s gone pretty good so far.”
The Girls have been on a 17 match win streak this season after losing just once. This energy and confidence is building over for the girls as they send a majority of their team to compete next Tuesday in districts. This group of young ladies have proven to be ready for the challenges faced ahead.
Go Rams!
