BNN Nolan Edwards on Max…
Max is a junior at Badin High School who has been running track since his freshman year, and in that time, he’s become more than just a talented athlete—he’s become a role model for his teammates and a symbol of dedication. Max embodies what it means to be a true student-athlete, showing up every day with a relentless commitment to improving. He is often the first one on the track and the last one to leave, putting in the extra effort because he doesn’t just run for Badin—he runs for the name on his back.
What sets Max apart is his passion for constant self-improvement. He knows that success isn’t just about racing against others, but about pushing his own limits. This mindset drives him to take every opportunity to better himself, both physically and mentally. “You can race anyone, but the most important lesson is every time you’re racing, you’re racing to beat yourself,” Max says. His focus on self-growth and determination has led him to tremendous success on the track.
Max’s journey began in his freshman year, when he found inspiration from a senior athlete at the time, John Ruppert. Watching John’s dedication and commitment left a lasting impact on Max, and now, he’s hoping to pass that inspiration on to the younger track athletes. “I want to be the same kind of example John was for me,” Max explains. He understands the importance of mentorship and is always there to offer guidance to his teammates, hoping to inspire them the same way he was motivated in the past.
Every athlete has their own unique pregame rituals, and Max is no different. He starts his race days with a simple yet effective routine: yogurt and chocolate milk for breakfast. This combination helps fuel him for the intense physical demands of his races. But Max’s pregame preparations don’t stop there—he also relies on music to get in the zone before every race. He’s a fan of classic rock, always listening to a set playlist before lining up. Van Halen and Mötley Crüe are staples in his pre-race playlist, with the final song always being Kickstart My Heart by Mötley Crüe. That high-energy track serves as the perfect pump-up song, giving Max that final burst of adrenaline to tackle whatever challenge lies ahead on the track.
Max’s dedication to his sport and his commitment to personal growth make him a true asset to the Badin track team. As he continues to develop his skills and lead by example, he’s proving that success is not just about winning races—it’s about constantly striving to be better and inspiring others to do the same. For Max, every race is an opportunity to beat his own best, and in doing so, he’s creating a legacy that will continue to motivate Badin athletes for years to come.
