Badin High School Swim Team Dominates Tri-Meet and Senior Night Competitions
The Badin High School Swim Team delivered stellar performances at their recent tri-meet and senior night events, continuing their strong season with impressive finishes and personal bests across multiple events. The team showcased their depth, talent, and sportsmanship, earning top honors in both the girls’ and boys’ competitions.
Girls’ Tri-Meet Results: Badin 159, Cincinnati Country Day (CCD) 82, Winton Woods (WW) 8
The girls’ team swept their competition in a dominant showing at the January 14 tri-meet, claiming several first-place finishes. Senior Kathleen Burke led the charge with two first-place finishes: the 200 Y Free (2:14.18) and the 100 Y Fly (1:08.06). Her impressive performance was matched by other standout swimmers, including:
- Ashley Leiss: 2nd in the 500 Y Free (6:33.51, personal best)
- Caroline Hengehold: 2nd in the 100 Y Back (1:14.57)
- Elle Minges: 2nd in the 200 Y IM (2:47.19)
- Molly Black: 1st in the 100 Y Breast (1:30.29, personal best)
Other personal bests were achieved by swimmers including Phoebe Kraus (100 Y Back, 1:29.36), Lily Tischler (100 Y Fly, 1:34.59), and several others who helped push the team to victory.
Boys’ Tri-Meet Results: Badin 133, Cincinnati Country Day (CCD) 63, Winton Woods (WW) 17
The Badin boys’ team also came out on top, with a commanding victory over their opponents. Auggy Newberry led the team, securing a 1st place finish in the 200 Y IM (2:08.98) and 2nd in the 100 Y Fly (1:00.17, personal best). Key performances also included:
- Kellen Burke: 1st in the 200 Y Free (2:01.36, personal best)
- Luke Schmitt: 1st in the 50 Y Free (25.44)
- Sam Collins: 1st in the 100 Y Breast (1:12.11)
- Connor Hartford: 1st in the 500 Y Free (5:50.69)
Other highlights included personal bests from Keith Mayer in the 200 Y Free (2:18.90) and Connor Wood in the 100 Y Back (1:07.78).
Senior Night Results – January 21, 2025
The Badin Swim Team honored its seniors in their final home meet, competing against Wyoming and Colerain. Despite strong competition, Badin placed second overall in both the boys’ and girls’ events, with some incredible individual performances.
- Auggy Newberry: 1st in the 200 Y Free (1:53.67, personal best) and 2nd in the 100 Y Fly (59.79, personal best)
- Kellen Burke: 3rd in the 500 Y Free (5:48.22) and 3rd in the 100 Y Fly (1:05.30)
- Sam Collins: 2nd in the 100 Y Breast (1:12.70)
- Connor Wood: 2nd in the 100 Y Back (1:04.75)
- Kathleen Burke: 1st in the 100 Y Fly (1:06.04)
- Claire Ressler: 3rd in the 50 Y Free (29.92, personal best)
Ohio High School Classic – A Milestone Performance
The Badin Swim Team also competed in the prestigious Ohio High School Classic, where both Auggy Newberry and Kathleen Burke made a splash as finalists in the 500 Y Free. Auggy’s remarkable performance in the 1,650 Y Free (mile), where he was seeded outside the top 16 but finished 12th overall, stands as one of the team’s most exciting accomplishments of the season.
